A love letter to design & sales: the perfect marriage.

Most people think that art and sales don’t mix. Most people (i.e your competitors) are wrong. In our culture, there’s an assumption that artists make art and salespeople make money. Companies separate marketers and salespeople into siloes so they never interact or learn from each other. This is damaging our businesses, our customers, and frankly our souls.

Design plays a crucial role in business. Every physical product, every website, every brief has to be designed… so why shouldn’t it be designed well? Design is ultimately what customers see, hold, and interact with. We should design with a deep love and respect for our customers, those great people that make our business possible in the first place.

Effective design is convincing. Great design is great sales! You might have the greatest product on earth, but if it’s presented in a poor way prospects assume the worst. They don’t see the research and development. They don’t see the sleepless nights. They don’t see the grueling work it took to bring your product to market. They just see the product and how it’s presented. If it’s presented in a beautiful, clear, and compelling way it conveys to them the quality of your business and the respect you have for them as people.

So if you want to sell, take design seriously.
